Personal Pilgrim Badge casting workshop with Katie Surridge

A Muir Trust Residency event.
This workshop gives adults the opportunity to design and make a unique pilgrim badge with personal significance and explore their creativity. In advance, participants might think about a pilgrimage story that is relevant to them and what they might depict.
In a small group, this friendly and informal workshop will involve design, preparing and carving cuttlefish moulds, melting metal alloys and pouring into moulds, then finishing and polishing the resulting cast pieces. All equipment and materials will be provided.
Katie Surridge is an experienced metal worker and will supervise and demonstrate all stages. Protective clothing eg. visor,gloves, apron, will be provided for casting activity but it is recommended that participants wear suitable, non-flammable clothing such as jeans, long-sleeved jackets. The casting activity takes place outside in the museum garden.
There is a 30 minute break for lunch around 12.30. The museum café will be open or please bring a packed lunch.
Places on this workshop are limited to 8 adults and booking is essential.
